If you don't already know, 3GP is the latest File Format that is being used for viewing and for the playback of the Multimedia files on the latest 3G mobile phones. 3GP is the mobile phone compatible version of the MP4 that makes the storage of video, audio and other related data much more compressed and thus making the storage space needed for the particular file much less than other such media files.

Related to this is the Encoder; an encoder is the program that converts a particular File Format into another File Format. Therefore, since the 3GP Files are compatible with 3G phones and can be viewed on the computer on certain platforms, it can be encoded into a different File format making it compatible with whatever platform for viewing that you may need.

The different types of encoders that are available for converting a 3GP File to any other are varied in number and type and these encoders can be downloaded from the internet itself.  Here are a few examples of the 3GP Encoders that one can download from the internet and then use to convert to any other File Format that you may wish.

ImTOO, X4Live, Total Video Converter, Xilisoft, Nero Recode, SUPER, AllokMPEG4 Converter these are examples of some of the 3GP encoders that are available online for converting into anything else or vice versa. All these Encoders will have their pros and their cons and nobody can say that the Encoder that they use is a complete hundred percent fault free.

Encoders such as ImTOO and Xilisoft have nearly similar quality of conversions though the conversion into 3GP that is made by Xilisoft has the problem that the volume can hardly ever be increased. X4Live in the same league on the other hand is one of the best Encoders and is usually free of problems; Total Video Converter is the other 3GP Encoder that is similar to X4Live as the problems faced are less with this Encoder. Any File Format can easily be converted into 3GP and be viewed and there is also no problem with the Volume control as there is with Xilisoft and moreover the Total Video Converter would also take you much less time to convert into 3GP. While other 3GP encoders could take you close to a more than an hour and sometimes a few hours, Total Video Converter usually takes less than an hour to do the encoding and conversion.

SUPER on the other hand is quite popular with users to convert a File format into a 3GP format but the problem with it is that the resolution cannot be increased after the conversion is made and this happens often and poses a problem with users. Also, the time taken by SUPER to do an encoding job of a File Format into 3GP is also very long, much more compared to most other encoders.

These Encoders therefore bear varied results and have to be tested to see which one clicks with you.
