Quicktime MOV

As you perhaps know by now that MOV is a kind of File Format that is used by the Media Player-QuickTime. Not only this it is one of those Container File formats that is subsequently capable of holding video, audio and data along with other kinds of media files together. It is therefore quite similar to the MP4 File Format that Media player uses as its type. This is thus a very common File Format to be used with the video cameras as well and then played on the computer using the QuickTime Media Player.

These MOV Files are therefore quite commonly found on the internet as well but unfortunately cannot be played without the specific platform, which is QuickTime by Apple, however what is a possibility is that it can be converted into a different File Format and then be played on the computer. However there is another alternative which can be used for opening the MOV File which is commonly called the QuickTime Alternative, this allows other File Formats other than MOV Files to be played with it.

One of the biggest advantages of working with or using the MOV Media Files is that it can also store data information for the media files along with the audio or video as is stored already; so it makes things easier if the media file needs to be edited, so you need not rewrite the entire media details after having edited the media file.

The basic problem that many users encounter when they use Media Files is the conversion from the MOV File format to the format that you wish to play it in. now QuickTime is usually free for download on Windows or Mac computers, but there are many people who would rather stick to a Media player that they are familiar with rather than download a separate Media player all together. So if you plan on sticking to the Windows Media Player that you originally have, you have to get hold of a MOV Encoder that would change the MOV File to the File format that plays with the platform that you have.

What happens is that there are several Video camcorders that function with MOV files, as mentioned before and if you plan on viewing it on your computer you would again need the right platform, so you can then use an Encoder like Xilisoft Video converter that would make your video compatible for viewing. So you can even convert the MOV File format to a Format that makes the video compatible even with mobile phone devices such as the iPhone.

The only real problem that most users have encountered with the MOV File format for their media files is the initial playing and this is usually because of the kind of platform that they are using. If you have QuickTime installed this will not be a problem and if the MOV file refuses to work then maybe you do not have QuickTime installed.
