First of all, before you go ahead and spend money on an MP4 player, you must make sure that you know all its functions and uses. An MP4 player unlike an MP3 Player would allow you to store and playback video and audio files along with text files and eBooks etc. Now that being said you have to decide whether you would need all these features out of your media gadget. However you need not worry about the price as retail markets have opened up the possibility of these MP4 Players to also be available at quite a reasonable range.

So before you go shopping for your MP4 player you must make sure you have certain basic requirements cleared out. Firstly, ask yourself what functions you would like out of your MP4 or rather why are you buying the MP4. So if you are planning on watching a lot of full length films or broadcast television shows or even read eBooks, then your basic requirement out of the MP4 would be a large screen for best visibility and also a large storage capacity to store all those files. If such is your requirement then you should look for an MP4 that has at least 10 to 120 GB storage. The larger the memory and screen for this kind of usage the better it would be for you. However, if you need the device only to listen to music and some music videos here and there, the memory and even the screen would not be of much importance then and you can make do with a memory of anywhere between 2 to 8 GB.

Secondly, according to your budget and also according to your requirement, you must select the MP4, whether a branded one or a counterfeit. A branded MP4 such as one of Apple or creative Zen would offer you the cream of the cream, from best functions and a great warranty; however there are also many counterfeit Mp4s that are available for much cheaper price and have the uniqueness of appearance along with great storage capacity and features. The only problem with these products is there warranty.

Also, when you are selecting an MP4 you must make sure that you have all the details of the kinds of formats that the device supports. There are many MP4 Players that do not support the MPEG4 format for video files. So you need to be careful while selecting and make sure that the kinds of File formats that you use for media files are all supported by the MP4 that you are buying. Besides these, you should also go through the additional accessories that come along with the device and purchase one according to your needs.
